Climate change was the focus this week. It's such a big topic, that is feels like it ought to be the first lesson of every lecture in every subject, rather than something looked at by a select few on science courses. Each one of us could relate to the lesson and the group chat was quite lively, which I found reassuring. It felt as though, if everyone had the same outlook and applied this to their own practice, we could in fact make a difference.
Textile waste was something we touched on a bit in the concepts module when we looked at zero waste pattern cutting, and in turn I looked at the drag performers incorporating zero waste into their costumes, or using recycled materials, or going one step further and making their outfits entirely from waste, as is the case with the New York performer Avant Garbage.

Looking at reducing textile waste and making costumes from recycled materials is something I am really interested in. I'm hoping I'll be able to incorporate it into my final major project.
Our study task involved looking at different research methods and working out how to apply these to our own area of interest. I found the Designing With People website really helpful. The website helps you narrow down which kind of research methods are right for your project, but also gives lots of advice on ethics.
